TEST ENGINEERING. KNOWLEDGE
What is an EV simulator and what is an EVSE simulator?
An EV simulator acts as the vehicle counterpart when the charging station is the device under test. An EVSE simulator acts as the charging-station counterpart when the vehicle or charging controller is the device under test. The selected role determines which signals, messages and electrical conditions the simulator controls.
Test area and evidence
| Test area | What to define or record |
|---|---|
| EV simulator | Station or SECC DUT. Simulated vehicle. |
| EVSE simulator | Vehicle or EVCC DUT. Simulated station. |
| Interop analyser | Two real partners. Observe their interaction. |
| Configuration | Agree interfaces, protocol, faults and power scope. |
Coverage depends on the configured hardware, interfaces, firmware and released test libraries. State the agreed method and normative edition in the result. No blanket certification or universal fault coverage is implied.
Questions about this test scope
What must the test record identify?
Identify the DUT, counterpart, firmware, configured interfaces, method, library version and measured result.
Can one result prove every supported variant?
No. Define which configurations and conditions the executed cases cover, and document any untested boundary.
How do I choose the related test setup?
Start with the DUT role and required interfaces, then agree the communication, electrical and power scope with the application team.
