The problem came before the company

The required test system did not exist. So comemso built it.

Before founding comemso, Dr.-Ing. Kiriakos Athanasas and Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Anita Athanasas worked on specialised test systems at a major vehicle manufacturer. Suitable solutions were not available, while established suppliers considered the task too specialised and too complex.

Shortly after the company was founded, the planned reference project was cancelled during the financial crisis. Instead of waiting, the team invested in its own products, built prototypes and spoke directly with potential customers.

A year later, a customer requested an e-mobility test system. A prototype was ready within weeks and the complete test bench followed four months later. The first system remained in successful operation for more than eight years before becoming part of the customer’s museum.

That operating model still defines comemso today. The company is investor-free, 100% owner-owned and owner-managed. It has grown through its own strength, innovation, passion and hard work. From design and development to production, the complete product chain is kept in-house. Direct feedback between engineering, application teams and manufacturing enables fast innovation cycles while quality stays under one responsibility.

Investor-free since the beginning

Grown by its own strength, innovation, passion and hard work.

comemso was built without outside investors. Growth came from solving difficult engineering problems, reinvesting in the company and staying close to the people who use the systems.

Engineering freedom with personal responsibility.

Investor-free ownership gives comemso the freedom to think beyond short-term cycles. The company can invest in technical depth, develop hardware and software together, and keep responsibility from the first idea through production and customer support.

Passion is part of that independence. It is visible in the persistence required to make complex technology measurable, in the willingness to enter new fields early and in the hard work behind every reliable test result.

Standards expertise

Close to the standards while tomorrow’s interfaces are taking shape.

Co-founder Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Anita Athanasas contributes her e-mobility expertise to several standards working groups. This connects technical discussion with the practical question that matters to customers: how can an emerging requirement be measured, challenged and verified?

For comemso, standards expertise is not a logo wall. It shortens the path from a developing requirement to an executable test method, while the released standard edition, test-library version and customer specification remain explicit.

Early technical context

Understand the direction of new interfaces and requirements before they become routine.

Engineering translation

Turn text into observable states, timings, limits, fault conditions and evidence.

Fast in-house implementation

Connect standards knowledge directly with hardware, software and production teams.

Company history

A new technical benchmark wherever the market moved next.

The development follows concrete engineering needs. Each milestone added technical depth, production capacity, services or regional access.

2009

Company founded in Ostfildern

Dr.-Ing. Kiriakos Athanasas and Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Anita Athanasas founded comemso GmbH in December. The name expresses the original focus: COMplex EMbedded SOlutions.

2010

Battery Cell Simulator development

Development began on the first own product for testing battery management systems in electric vehicles.

2011

Charging-system analysis

Devices for analysing and testing electric-vehicle charging systems became the second product family.

2020

Expanded research and development

The company moved into a new research and development building next to the headquarters, increasing space for engineering and system integration.

2021

Company group structured by purpose

Additional companies were established for distinct operating responsibilities. comemso GmbH changed into the holding company.

2022

Self-generated renewable energy

A rooftop photovoltaic system began supplying renewable electricity to the company site.

Today

Engineering, production and services in one group

The group connects product development, manufacturing, test and calibration services, and customer access in Germany and North America.

Independent recognition

Innovation is not a claim. It is the track record.

The awards recognise different parts of the comemso story: pioneering battery simulation, practical EVSE (electric vehicle supply equipment, or charging station) testing, entrepreneurship and the organisation’s ability to turn emerging requirements into working systems.

How we engineer

Four principles behind technical leadership.

These principles explain how difficult test tasks become usable, transparent and reproducible systems.

Solve what the market cannot yet test

Start with the engineering boundary that conventional instruments or standard products do not address sufficiently.

Enter new technologies early

Work on protocols, power classes, BMS architectures and interfaces while they are still emerging—not after they become routine.

Own the technical depth

Develop hardware, software, test methods and application knowledge together so critical layers remain observable and controllable.

Build the benchmark for real work

Translate technical leadership into systems teams can use across research, validation, production, commissioning, service and metrology.

The same engineering principles shape the mission, working culture and roles presented on Careers.
