About comemso
Independent Development and Manufacturing at comemso
Founded in 2009, comemso develops and manufactures test systems for electric-vehicle charging and battery management. The company remains owner-managed, with development and production in-house.
The problem came before the company
The required test system did not exist. So comemso built it.
Before founding comemso, Dr.-Ing. Kiriakos Athanasas and Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Anita Athanasas worked on specialised test systems at a major vehicle manufacturer. Suitable solutions were not available, while established suppliers considered the task too specialised and too complex.
Shortly after the company was founded, the planned reference project was cancelled during the financial crisis. Instead of waiting, the team invested in its own products, built prototypes and spoke directly with potential customers.
A year later, a customer requested an e-mobility test system. A prototype was ready within weeks and the complete test bench followed four months later. The first system remained in successful operation for more than eight years before becoming part of the customer’s museum.
That operating model still defines comemso today. The company is investor-free, 100% owner-owned and owner-managed. It has grown through its own strength, innovation, passion and hard work. From design and development to production, the complete product chain is kept in-house. Direct feedback between engineering, application teams and manufacturing enables fast innovation cycles while quality stays under one responsibility.

Investor-free since the beginning
Grown by its own strength, innovation, passion and hard work.
comemso was built without outside investors. Growth came from solving difficult engineering problems, reinvesting in the company and staying close to the people who use the systems.

Engineering freedom with personal responsibility.
Investor-free ownership gives comemso the freedom to think beyond short-term cycles. The company can invest in technical depth, develop hardware and software together, and keep responsibility from the first idea through production and customer support.
Passion is part of that independence. It is visible in the persistence required to make complex technology measurable, in the willingness to enter new fields early and in the hard work behind every reliable test result.
- Investor-free and owner-managed
- Growth financed by the company’s own success
- Innovation developed and manufactured in-house
- Long-term decisions shaped by customer needs
Standards expertise
Close to the standards while tomorrow’s interfaces are taking shape.
Co-founder Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Anita Athanasas contributes her e-mobility expertise to several standards working groups. This connects technical discussion with the practical question that matters to customers: how can an emerging requirement be measured, challenged and verified?
For comemso, standards expertise is not a logo wall. It shortens the path from a developing requirement to an executable test method, while the released standard edition, test-library version and customer specification remain explicit.
Early technical context
Understand the direction of new interfaces and requirements before they become routine.
Engineering translation
Turn text into observable states, timings, limits, fault conditions and evidence.
Fast in-house implementation
Connect standards knowledge directly with hardware, software and production teams.
Company history
A new technical benchmark wherever the market moved next.
The development follows concrete engineering needs. Each milestone added technical depth, production capacity, services or regional access.
Company founded in Ostfildern
Dr.-Ing. Kiriakos Athanasas and Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Anita Athanasas founded comemso GmbH in December. The name expresses the original focus: COMplex EMbedded SOlutions.
Battery Cell Simulator development
Development began on the first own product for testing battery management systems in electric vehicles.
Charging-system analysis
Devices for analysing and testing electric-vehicle charging systems became the second product family.
Expanded research and development
The company moved into a new research and development building next to the headquarters, increasing space for engineering and system integration.
Company group structured by purpose
Additional companies were established for distinct operating responsibilities. comemso GmbH changed into the holding company.
Self-generated renewable energy
A rooftop photovoltaic system began supplying renewable electricity to the company site.
Engineering, production and services in one group
The group connects product development, manufacturing, test and calibration services, and customer access in Germany and North America.
Independent recognition
Innovation is not a claim. It is the track record.
The awards recognise different parts of the comemso story: pioneering battery simulation, practical EVSE (electric vehicle supply equipment, or charging station) testing, entrepreneurship and the organisation’s ability to turn emerging requirements into working systems.

Recognition from the Esslingen district
Recognition for lithium-ion battery cell simulation for electric vehicles—an early external acknowledgement of the Battery Cell Simulator approach.

KfW GründerChampion for Baden-Württemberg
With its Battery Cell Simulator innovation, comemso was selected by KfW Bankengruppe as the state winner for Baden-Württemberg and presented at deGUT 2012.

Innovation Award Baden-Württemberg
The Battery Cell Simulator was recognised as an innovation that translated a complex e-mobility test requirement into a scalable technical system.

Innovation Award of the Esslingen district
Easy Chester received the Innovation Award of the Esslingen district for making professional charging-station testing practical in the field.

1st place—Landespreis für junge Unternehmen
The State of Baden-Württemberg and L-Bank awarded comemso first place in the 2020 state award for young companies.

TOP 100 Top-Innovator
The TOP 100 distinction recognised comemso’s innovation capability across the organisation.
Separate proof, clear meaning. Product and company awards are shown here. ISO management systems, DAkkS accreditation, Eichrecht and CharIN evidence remain under Quality & Certifications so each proof retains its correct scope.
Company structure
Four operating companies. One specialised group.
comemso GmbH provides the holding framework. The operating companies separate development and sales, production, testing and calibration, and North American market access.
Strategic direction and group framework
Simplified public overview. Current registry information, contracts, certificates and accreditation records remain authoritative for legal-entity questions.
How we engineer
Four principles behind technical leadership.
These principles explain how difficult test tasks become usable, transparent and reproducible systems.
Solve what the market cannot yet test
Start with the engineering boundary that conventional instruments or standard products do not address sufficiently.
Enter new technologies early
Work on protocols, power classes, BMS architectures and interfaces while they are still emerging—not after they become routine.
Own the technical depth
Develop hardware, software, test methods and application knowledge together so critical layers remain observable and controllable.
Build the benchmark for real work
Translate technical leadership into systems teams can use across research, validation, production, commissioning, service and metrology.
The same engineering principles shape the mission, working culture and roles presented on Careers.
Locations and access
Headquarters in Ostfildern. Regional access in North America.
The German headquarters brings engineering, production and services together near Stuttgart. The North American office and official sales partners connect customers with regional commercial and application support.

About comemso | Technology pioneer and test-system manufacturer FAQ
What makes comemso independent?
comemso has remained investor-free, owner-owned and owner-managed since 2009. Growth has been financed through the company’s own work and customer success.
What does developed and manufactured in-house mean?
Hardware, software, system design and production remain within the comemso group. This keeps technical feedback loops short and responsibility clear.
Does comemso test batteries?
No. comemso does not characterise electrochemical cells or battery chemistry. Its systems test battery management systems by replacing real cells with safe, repeatable cell and sensor emulation.
Where can I verify quality and accreditation information?
The Quality & Certifications page separates management systems, laboratory accreditation and product-related evidence by scope.
