North America
UL standards and EVSE field safety testing in North America.
Separate charging-equipment product certification from inspection of the installed charging point. UL 2231 addresses personnel-protection systems, while UL 2202 covers DC charging equipment. Field checks must follow the locally adopted electrical code, equipment instructions and the authority responsible for the installation.
Test area and evidence
| Test area | What to define or record |
|---|---|
| UL 2231-1 and UL 2231-2 | Personnel protection for EV supply circuits. |
| UL 2202 | DC charging-equipment product safety. |
| NEC Article 625 | Installation requirements. Confirm local adoption and the responsible authority. |
| Field test report | Record installation identity, method, setup, result and applicable limits. |
A Micro or Ultimate installation report does not replace UL certification of a charger or approval by the local authority. Confirm regional hardware, protective-measure test methods and ratings before selecting equipment.
Questions about this test scope
Does field testing certify a charger to UL?
No. Product certification has its own laboratory and certification process. Field testing documents the agreed installed-system checks.
Does Ultimate cover every UL requirement?
No such blanket coverage is asserted. Confirm individual methods, interface compatibility and configuration with the application team.
Who determines the applicable installation code?
The locally adopted code and authority having jurisdiction determine the installation requirements.
Can Micro test DC charging points?
Micro is an AC installation tester. Configured AC/DC installation tests require a suitable system such as Ultimate.
