TEST ENGINEERING. KNOWLEDGE
How is BMS testing done with a battery cell simulator instead of real cells?
A battery cell simulator applies controlled cell voltages and configured sensor signals to a real battery-management system. Vary the defined inputs and supported faults, then observe monitoring, balancing and protection responses without waiting for real cells to charge or discharge.
Test area and evidence
| Test area | What to define or record |
|---|---|
| Inputs | Configured cell voltages and sensor signals. |
| Faults | Supported open-wire, boundary or other agreed states. |
| DUT response | Monitoring, balancing and protection behaviour. |
| Boundary | Controller testing, distinct from electrochemical cell characterisation. |
Coverage depends on the configured hardware, interfaces, firmware and released test libraries. State the agreed method and normative edition in the result. No blanket certification or universal fault coverage is implied.
Questions about this test scope
What must the test record identify?
Identify the DUT, counterpart, firmware, configured interfaces, method, library version and measured result.
Can one result prove every supported variant?
No. Define which configurations and conditions the executed cases cover, and document any untested boundary.
How do I choose the related test setup?
Start with the DUT role and required interfaces, then agree the communication, electrical and power scope with the application team.
