TEST ENGINEERING. KNOWLEDGE
What is needed to test megawatt charging (MCS) communication and signals?
Define the MCS connector, communication interface, EV or EVSE role and normative editions before selecting the test setup. Communication and signal testing require compatible instrumentation and released methods; a high-power energy-transfer test additionally requires appropriately rated power equipment.
Test area and evidence
| Test area | What to define or record |
|---|---|
| Charging equipment | IEC 61851-23-3:2026. |
| Communication | ISO 15118-10 and ISO 15118-20 as referenced by the equipment standard. |
| Interface | Compatible MCS coupler and signal setup. |
| Power | Agreed voltage, current, load/source and protective separation. |
Coverage depends on the configured hardware, interfaces, firmware and released test libraries. State the agreed method and normative edition in the result. No blanket certification or universal fault coverage is implied.
Questions about this test scope
What must the test record identify?
Identify the DUT, counterpart, firmware, configured interfaces, method, library version and measured result.
Can one result prove every supported variant?
No. Define which configurations and conditions the executed cases cover, and document any untested boundary.
How do I choose the related test setup?
Start with the DUT role and required interfaces, then agree the communication, electrical and power scope with the application team.
